EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING PROGRAMME
9am – 4pm
(20 staff maximum)
The programme will focus on how to develop relationships within a key-worker role that builds trust and supports personal responsibility and change. I will be linking the programme to my 10 years of experience in both working as a key-worker and managing teams that used the key-worker model.
The initial session will be for a full day and will be the same as my day programme, at the end of this session the delegates will take away actions that they can implement when delivering 121 sessions.
Sessions two and three will be 2.5-hour sessions, and will be based around the reflective practice model. We will explore ‘what worked?’, ‘what didn’t work?’, and also challenge those that have not implemented the homework; this will be the question – ‘Why not?’

- My story
- What is the Prison Officer Role – Understanding of role and responsibility.
- Rapport/relationship building – How this links to supporting residents (Direct link to FMI training)
- Narratives – Understanding both client’s and their own narratives.
- Scenarios – Linked to their Prison Officer role.
- Role play
- Q&A
- Actions to take away and practice
- Reflect and review on actions from previous session.
- Revisit Dr Erik Berne PAC & Steve Covey’s Emotional Bank, Challenge and Support.
- Explore how positive relationships are being built (responsibility of “I”).
- How to maintain both staff and manager relationships – “The Art of Communication”.
- Actions to take away and practice.
- Review on actions from previous session.
- Reflect on staff relationships: list positives & negatives and discuss.
- Examples of how they have been using the PAC model and creating healthy accounts.
- Create overview of how the strategies learnt can be embedded within the leadership team and disseminated to the wider work force.
- Take away personal action plan.
Strategies:
- Dr Eric Berne’s Parent-Adult-Child Model – This will increase personal awareness and show how communication styles can be adapted dependent on the residents individual needs.
- Challenge and Support– I will be explaining how to best challenge and support and this will link to the Parent-Adult-Child model.
- Relationship building – Steve Covey’s Emotional Bank – We will explore how to build relationships through rapport.
